The Hackney Room is a creative space in Hackney Downs Studios, built around seeing, hearing and, above all, feeling. Part art space and part working studio, we host a curated programme of audiovisual artists, immersive performances, film screenings and workshops, creating space for experiences that move beyond the everyday. At the same time, the room is available to hire for photography, film, workshops, private screenings and creative events. Our 700 sq ft studio combines the character of an industrial space with the flexibility of a blank canvas. High exposed ceilings, white brick walls and concrete floors sit alongside three fully blackout skylights, giving you complete control over the atmosphere — from bright natural daylight to total darkness. The space can also be transformed into an intimate screening room for up to 40 people, with a large freestanding screen, laser projector and professional audio setup. Production equipment, lighting, cameras, microphones and grip are available alongside practical essentials including a makeup station, clothing rail and background support.
